Rather than annoy my LiveJournal f-list with constant pleas to sponsor me for my fundraising event (AIDS Walk San Francisco, this Sunday, 15 July), I'll just annoy the f-list over here at Vox!
This is amazingly brilliant on my part, because only 99.6% of my Vox f-list is also my LJ f-list.
So, um, yeah...
:::clears throat hesitantly:::
Would anyone like to sponsor me?
What's your middle name? Is there a story or history behind it?
My middle name is currently my first name. I was actually named John but never knew it until I started kindergarten and came home after the first day and asked my mom why the teacher kept pointing at me and calling me "John."
Later, when I was in high school, I amended my birth certificate to remove the "John."
Apparently you can do that in California.
Up until I was about five, my dad often called me Luigi because he thought it was a cool nickname.
ZOMG.
I live for felicitous turns of phrase such as this one:
"She's the anti-Christ," says Sandler. "She truly has the soul of a moth and the brain of a dead trout."
(ganked from ohnotheydidnt over at LiveJournal)
You are a golden God, enveloped in a veil of excellence.
Someone just left feedback for me on a recent eBay transaction. Apparently they use this all the time:
Google search for the above phrase
So, as part of a campaign to lower my blood pressure and increase the amount of "good" cholesterol, I have been walking at least 5 times a week, at least 60 to 90 minutes each time. Some days I can manage 2 hours or more, but then my bunions protest for the rest of the day.
One of my favorite walking places-- also one of the closest-- is Alviso, which has salt marshes and baylands that appeal to nature lovers, be they walkers or birders.
When I was a child, Alviso was often looked down upon as a backwaters town. It has since then become a district of San Jose-- and true to its red-headed stepchild status, it is classified as an "unincorporated" section of the city-- but it still retains its former atmosphere as a small port town nestled in the far southwest corner of San Francisco Bay.
Additional background about the town of Alviso is here.
Today I did 6 miles, which encompassed the 5.5-mile loop trail as well as a brisk stroll down the boardwalk that connects the Alviso EEC to the rest of the loop. My average walking speed is about 3.4 miles/hour, which is, I feel, slow for me. However, I remind myself that I have only been seriously walking since the middle of June. It will take me a while to reach the average walking speeds I enjoyed when I was in, say, my mid-30s.
At one point along this loop trail, you come to the remains of a ghost town, Drawbridge. Additional information on Drawbridge is here.
The major source of entertainment on these walks is for me to try to memorize the features of the birds that I catch sight of, and then to try and figure out what they are when I return home and ruffle through my mom's birdwatching books. Right now I'm trying to figure out if this morning I saw cormorants or else pelicans, which are easily distinguishable in drawings but harder to tell apart when you're out in the marsh wind and the sun is glaring right into your face.
Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg (of Saturday Night Live fame) really like "The Chronicles Of Narnia".
Vid is here.
Over at LiveJournal, a Supernatural fan named Anteka is helping us pass the long, hot summer by producing The Plastic!Winchester Theater.
It's gret fun with action figures (mostly Barbie & Ken dolls, actually) depict various thrilling episodes, all of them original.
(Warning: some brother-incest humor.)
Features guest stars from other fandoms, too! Check it out.
Play any instrument or speak any language, which do you choose?
Question submitted by cruftbox.vox.com.
I choose Speak any language. My dream is to travel a lot, and it would be nice to be able to jump into a culture without the usual tourist/guide trappings.
Snarky humor:
Spoilers [obviously!] for the movie.
A rather wicked look at the sequel, which I still love despited its
(I'm posting this here because yet another entry in my LJ will mean that I'm spamming my f-list)
